Xbox Series X Reveal Event Promises Great Things

The Xbox Series X Games Reveal Live Event premiered today! How does this stack up to Sony’s showcase and does this get us hyped up for the next gen of gaming? Let’s dive right in!

We start with one of the most anticipated titles of the XBSX. Halo Infinite’s start is very visually impressive. It continues on from last year’s E3 trailer. We crash land on a planet and are treated to a gameplay demo. Everything g looks great as expected, but also has a very tech demo feel. The game has been confirmed to be open world. The environments look fairly empty, and there is a fair amount of pop-in, but I’m chalking that up to this being in a prerelease state. There seems to be a lot of fun new mechanics. They’re nothing new to video games, but new to the series. We’ll see for ourselves holiday 2020.

Next up is State of Decay 3. We start with a woman surviving in the snowy wilderness and following a blood trail. She sees a wolf being eaten by…A ZOMBIE DEER? Creepy but nothing to really get me excited beyond the name. No release date as of writing.

Hi Phill Spencer. He makes his usual appearance in these sorts of things to promote the Xbox game pass. Also as usual. The Xbox game pass is a good sell, though. Can’t deny that.

Just as with Gran Turismo and Sony, we have Forza and Xbox. Like I said before, I’m not big on racing, but it looks great and extremely visually impressive. Lots of vroom vrooms. Not much else shown and no release date.

Next up is Rare ware. Or what’s left of rare ware. This brand new IP is Everwild. The game has stylized visuals. Big and small unusual creatures are shown side by side with humans. The humans appear to use magic and revive one of the sick creatures they pick up. It looks really good, but I’m skeptical of any rare titles. Especially since this isn’t the rare of our childhoods. But I will remain hopeful because it does look great.

Next up is an obvious Dontnod game, Tell Me Why. It appears to her about an estranged brother and sister. Something appears to have happened with the mother and a shotgun directed at the brother. The magic power this time around appears to be magical visions. It’s the best looking (graphics and story) Dontnod game by far. Dontnod games are my trash and I’m so excited. Chapter one will be available August 27th.

Ori and the will of the wisps will be coming to series x. Okay cool. Moving on.

Next up is an Outer Wilds announcement. A new DLC pack Peril of Gorgon releases September 9th. If you like the Outer Wilds, you’ll like this DLC.

A game I’m sure the kids will like, Grounded by Obsidian Games. I read about this in game informer and wasn’t interested then. I’m not interested now, but I know that this will be good for kids and I’m not the target audience. I get serious Honey I Shrunk the Kids vibes and I loved that as a kid. This will be an Xbox exclusive preview on July 28.

Also by Obsidian is their next fantasy first person RPG, Avowed. It looks fine, but there wasn’t much shown off. No release date as of writing. There was also an indie darling shown off at the same time. A French Woman tells us this game, an interactive drama, spans 30 years in an American family in the Southwest. The trailer is a series of still images before revealing the main character knocking on a door. This game is called As Dusk Falls. No release date as of writing.

Hellblade 2 is up next. It’s set in Iceland and if you want to find out about that, for some reason, go watch the behind the scenes on ninja theory’s YouTube channel. No trailer sadly.

Jack Black is doing a voice in the next game. I like Jack Black. I also love Psychonauts and we have the second game’s trailer! It looks amazing. It looks even more amazing with the dulcet tones of Jack Black serenading us. It looks like it’ll be just as joyful as the first game. Richard Horvitz also returns as the main character. I giggled at the “feel mobile.” No release date as of writing.

Destiny 2 is coming to the X. Alright cool. Moving on once more. I don’t mean to discredit this game, it’s good, I just don’t have anything new to say about it. The next expansion will be out November 10th.

Next we have a series of XBSX exclusives. First is a creepy looking horror game which I’m super into. Stalker 2 will be a launch exclusive. Another launch exclusive will be Darktide, the Warhammer 40k version of Vermintide. This will be released 2021 and I’m very excited. Tetris Effect Connected will be released Holiday 2020 as a console launch exclusive. It will feature optimized single player and new multiplayer. I love it on the oculus so this looks like it’ll be a fun upgrade.

Another console launch exclusive comes from the producers of steamworld. The game has an interesting aesthetic and features a character using a robotic arm to vacuum up goop. The Gunk has no release date as of yet.

Next game features a female protagonist crime solver. It features dual realities that are displayed simultaneously and it looks amazing. It gives me the good Silent Hill vibes. The Medium has no release date as of writing.

Sega announced their new Phantasy Star Online title; Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. The graphics look good for the series, complete with a dated anime character look that is extremely endearing. This action fantasy RPG looks like a good progression for the series. It will be a console launch exclusive in 2021.

Another console launch exclusive is a first person shooter, Crossfire X. It’s releasing 2020. It looks good, but the trailer doesn’t give much information.

Several games will have XBSX upgrades on launch for free to owners. There will be over 100 titles including through this method for XBSX this holiday season. Phil Spencer promises more to show in the coming months before leaving us with one last world premiere. A new Fable game! We aren’t given much information, but a fairy gets eaten by a toad so I’m onboard. We’re then played out with a sizzle reel of everything we’ve seen through the direct.

I can’t say this one really did for me what Sony’s did, but there’s still a lot of great titles to be excited about. Let us know what you’re looking forward to most in the comments below!
