This year marks the 25th anniversary for the collectible pocket monster craze. With such a big anniversary, everyone is excited for what this could mean. Last year during the Thanksgiving Day Parade, the logo was revealed and the speculating began.

Very sleek, although I’ll always be a fan of the adorable 10th anniversary logo. While the big announcements won’t happen until the anniversary proper next month, we got a small teaser of what’s to come today. A video was released with an interesting way of going through the timeline. A ball on rails moved through a Peewee’s Big Adventure-eske contraption full of small delights that took us through the previous games in a delightfully charming way full of toys and built sets.

At the very end we were treated to our first teaser announcement. With a small sound sample “Electric” and neon lights that read “Katy Perry and Pokémon”. That’s right, Katy Perry will be helping kick off the celebrations with a collab between her and Pokémon Company International. We’ll most likely hear her song drop next month with a retrospective video to boot as well as reflections on the series.

That’s not all! Confirmed by the official 25th anniversary site, Perry is just the first of many famed artists who will be joining in for celebration collabs. It’s going to be interesting for sure. Trademarks were already discovered months ago for a 25th anniversary TCG set which the site also teases as well as oversize cards of old classics.

What celebration isn’t complete without merch? Merch will begin with the kick off of a special Bear Walker skateboard design featuring Pikachu up for preorder on January 17th. This isn’t the first collab for the two companies. Other companies with upcoming collabs for the anniversary are General Mills, Levi’s, McDonald’s, Jazwares, Scholastic, Mattel, Funko, and The Wand Company. An exciting list to be sure.

There’s more excitement to come for this poke-milestone. Celebrations will also hit the mobile game department next month with Pokémon Go and EX Masters receiving special events. I’m excited to find out what’s next and listen to some hit tracks along the way. If Bump of Chicken’s Pokémon celebration song with a really cool animated music video is anything to go by, we are in for some treats!
