On May 19th, the world received a grave announcement from Berserk’s official Twitter account. Kentaro Miura, creator of the Berserk manga series, has died. He passed on May 6, 2021 at 4:48 am (Japan Time) due to an acute aortic dissection at the age of 54.

He died so young and so full of ideas. The Berserk Manga had stopped on a cliff hanger that was soon to reveal a character secret we’ve been dying to discover for ages. The series has been going since 1989 and it’s a testament to how good it is that it still manages to engross us and leave us hungry for more even in 2021. He was a master story teller.
The series is incredibly influential and inspired stories such as Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and more. Currently in Final Fantasy XIV, players are holding a vigil for the author wearing the Dark Knight costume which draws inspiration from the character Guts in Berserk.
As for the future, currently an anthology of his unpublished works and plans will be published as they are at some indeterminate time in the future. His stories will continue to live on and inspire more creators in the future and his spirit will live on. Much love for his family and friends as they navigate the loss of a great man.
