I’ve been catching up on New Big 2 comics this week and thought I would give a quick round up of thoughts for this stack as a whole. Waiting for me at the comic store was: Batman, Empyre (Final Issue), Miles Morales, The Terrifics (Final Issue), Shazam (Final issue), Young Justice, and finally Strange Adventures.
Here are just a few notes for your comic shopping consideration….and perhaps a few spoilers…you’ve been warned.

The money I paid to read six comics in 2020 would have netted me over a hundred comics when I was a kid and that’s being generous. Even from last year to now, issues have gone up by a dollar. Comics definitely aren’t the value they used to be, let alone in Omnibus form.

Empyre ends and it was….decent. Nothing earth shattering but a good comic romp. The Kree/Skrull War is over but as is the theme…plants are the new antagonists.

The end of The Terrifics signals the passing of the New Age of Heroes that Dark Metal ushered in. This series was my most anticipated of those and it never lived up to its immense promise. The worst was of the limited use of Tom Strong.

The Shazam ending feels like the introduction to the end of an era with The Three Jokers being the conclusion. This is the bow out of Geoff Johns’s reign at DC complete with yet another battle with Superboy Prime. With many comics ending soon where DC goes as a comic universe seems to really be in the hands of Scott Snyder…..and maybe….

Brian Bendis. While he has reign in the Superman segment of DC, which included Legion of Superheroes, Young Justice is still the last of Wonder Comics left standing. Only the co-writing of David Walker and the presence of Naomi in the group proper give you any reminder of Wonder Comics. This, of course, is not without the consideration of the whole line essentially having a periphery membership to the team. Still, we see changes being reversed here in Young Justice with Tim Drake returning to the mantle of Robin from the ill received Drake moniker and costume.

All I will say about Batman is the war continues with Joker. Yay. It’s been an ok storyline but does not feel as epic as it should be for this to be the “final” confrontation.

Finally….Strange Adventures is great. Full Stop.
