Castlevania Grimoire of Souls was a mobile game by Konami finally acknowledging things other than pachinko machines exist. It released in September of 2019 in Japan. The game recently went live in Canada as a test before a world wide release. That day will sadly not come because Konami has just announced the game will be shutting down in September 2020. You know it’s serious because they’re no longer allowing in app purchases.

The title looked promising if only for the fact it was an actual Castlevania title. You could play as a host of series favorites and platform your way over to some delicious wall chicken. There’s single player and a co-op multiplayer mode. Most people who played really weren’t interested in the multiplayer and just wanted to play normal single player. This is what led to the downfall because there was, as a result, no incentive to purchase gems.

Players could often max out their favorite characters without spending a cent because what the players actually wanted, again, was just an actual Castlevania game. So there was no additional incentive to buy things that only really helped in the multiplayer. Symphony of the Night is available on app stores for $2.99 and had sold quite well. If this game had been the same and charged upfront with additional add ons in the single player, Konami would have had something. Instead, Konami continues to prove how incompetent they are at everything except producing gambling machines.
